Frequently Asked Questions
What does a doula do and how is it different from a midwife?
A doula provides continuous emotional and practical support during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Unlike a midwife, a doula does not perform medical procedures. Both roles are complementary: the midwife takes care of your clinical health while the doula supports your emotional wellbeing.
When should I start doula support during pregnancy?
You can start at any point during pregnancy. Many families begin in the second trimester to have time to prepare a birth plan and navigate the healthcare system in Barcelona. We also offer postpartum support if you've already given birth.
Are sessions in-person in Barcelona or online?
Both options are available. In-person sessions take place at our space in Poblenou, Barcelona (Carrer de Pujades, 174). We also offer online sessions for families who prefer the comfort of their home or are outside Barcelona.
Do I need a doula if I already have a midwife in Barcelona?
Yes, the roles are complementary. Your midwife manages the clinical aspects of pregnancy and birth. A doula supports you emotionally, helps you prepare your birth plan, guides you through the options available in Barcelona and provides continuous postpartum and breastfeeding support.
Are there group support sessions for mothers?
Yes, in addition to individual support, we offer Mama Moments: mother circles, prenatal/postpartum yoga and group self-care workshops.
