Delta del Llobregat

The Llobregat Delta is proof that you don’t need to drive two hours to find wild nature with kids. Fifteen minutes from the airport (yes, the airport) there are lagoons with actual flamingos. The look on your children’s faces when they see them for the first time is priceless. The wooden bird hides are strategically placed and kids love the idea of “spying” on birds through the slats.
The paths that run through the delta are completely flat and well-maintained, making them perfect for a stroller, a bike, or a bike trailer. An easy route is to park at Cal Tet (the information centre) and do the lagoon circuit, which is about 3 km with virtually no elevation change. Spring is when there are the most birds and the landscape is greenest.
An important note: bring a hat, sunscreen, and water because there is almost no shade. Mosquitoes can be a nuisance in summer, so come prepared with repellent. There is no bar or shop inside the natural area, but El Prat de Llobregat (five minutes away) has everything you need. This is a perfect outing to combine with a beach morning in Castelldefels if you want to make the most of the day.
