Bunkers del Carmel

★★★★☆

The remains of Civil War anti-aircraft batteries on top of the Turó de la Rovira hill, now Barcelona's most spectacular viewpoint. The 360-degree views are stunning. With kids you need to be careful around the higher edges, but little ones love exploring the old structures.

💡 Best for: Adventurous families with kids who walk well on their own (3-5 years)

⚠️ Avoid if... Your child tends to climb everything fearlessly — there are potential drops at the edges

💡 Parent tip: Go mid-morning on weekdays — at sunset it's packed with tourists. Bring water and snacks, there's nothing up there. And watch the kids near the edges.

The Bunkers del Carmel have become very trendy with tourists, but they’re still a brilliant family outing if you go at the right time. The views are some of the best in Barcelona — you can see the Sagrada Familia, the sea, Montjuic, everything. And for little ones, the old bunker structures are like a natural adventure playground where they can climb, hide, and explore.

The walk up from the street is steep but short (about 10-15 minutes). Strollers aren’t an option, so bring a baby carrier for the smallest ones. Once you’re at the top, the space is open and wide, but you need to keep watch because there are no fences at the edges. With kids aged 3-5 who understand instructions, it’s perfect. With a fearless 2-year-old who runs without looking, you’d better have two adults.

Our trick: go mid-morning on a weekday. At sunset it’s packed with Instagrammers and tour groups. In the morning you’ll have the place almost to yourself and the light is gorgeous. Bring water, fruit, and maybe a small game because there’s absolutely nothing up there — no bar, no fountain, no shade. But it’s worth it for those views.
