Can Sala is the ultimate family day trip for Barcelona families. About 45 minutes by car, you arrive at a real working farm where kids can do everything they can’t do in the city: pet goats, feed chickens, see pigs up close, ride horses (ponies for the little ones), and get dirty up to their eyebrows.
The workshops are really well organized for different ages. The youngest ones (1-3 years) enjoy simply watching and touching the animals with supervision. Kids aged 3-5 can do bread-making workshops, collect eggs, plant seeds, and take part in actual farm chores. The staff are real country people, patient and wonderful with kids. It’s not a staged show — it’s authentic rural life adapted for families.
Essential tips: book ahead (especially weekends and holidays), bring clothes that can be destroyed, wellies, and a complete change of clothes in the car. Bring food too because there’s no restaurant (there is a picnic area). And prepare yourself for the fact that the car will smell like a farm on the way home. But the look on your kid’s face while bottle-feeding a lamb makes it all worth it.
